Noted Odissi dancer of India, Ms. Ranjana Gauhar, visited Sri Lanka along with her troupe of accompanying dancers and musicians and gave a series of dance performances in Colombo and Kandy on the occasion of India's Republic Day 2006. The main performance held at the Bishop's College Auditorium on the eve of the Republic Day consisted of a beautifully-choreographed dance set to the celebrated 12th century poem Geet Govinda by the famous poet Jayadev. Her troupe performed classical Odissi dance items at India House and at the Indian Cultural Centre on the 26th and 27th of January, 2006. The troupe also gave a lecture demonstration at the University of Visual & Performing Arts and also performed in Kandy. Ms. Gauhar's performances were well appreciated by the Sri Lankan audiences. |
