Her Excellency Smt. Nirupama Rao, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka was the Chief Guest at the 2005 National Awards ceremony of the Sarvodaya Trust Fund held on 18th June 2006.

These awards are given annually to persons who have rendered service for the advancement of humanity, development and peace. The names of the awardees this year are: Professor Mohan Munasinghe, Mrs. Somalatha Subasinghe, Dr. D.V.J.Harischandra, Mr. Cyril Hewawasam and Prof. V.K.Samaranayaka.
