The High Commission of India celebrated Independence Day 2006 on 15th August. The Celebrations began with the hoisting of the National flag by the High Commissioner Smt. Nirupama Rao at the India House. It was followed by singing of the National Anthem by the Shillong Choir Group from Meghalaya, a state in North East India. Smt. Rao read out the excerpts from the address to the Nation by Hon' President of India Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, to the large gathering of Indian Nationals assembled at India House. The morning function ended with a spread of delicious Indian snacks.
A vast majority of newspapers carried a special supplement on the occasion of India's 60th Independence day in which they carried High Commissioner's message as well as various articles giving a multifaceted picture of India.
