Friendly cricket match between Sri Lankan media and High Commission of India


The High Commission of India hosted a friendly cricket match on 10th March 2007 between the mixed teams from the High Commission of India and Sri Lankan media called the Blue team and the Purple team. The Purple team headed by Mr. Ranjan Paranavithana , Sports Editor of Lakbima won the match. They scored 163 runs while the Blue team headed by Ms. Vipul, First Secretary(political) of the High Commission of India scored only 106 runs in this 20 over, match. The winning team was awarded the High Commissioner of India trophy The man of match award was won by Mr. Jeevan Namboodari and the best Catch Awards were won by Ishara Kodikara of The Nation and Lakmel Alwis of Swarnawahini.

The match was played at the CCC grounds of Gymkhana club and was attended by the High Commissioner of India, Mr. Alok Prasad. Mr. Siddhart Wettimuni was the Chief Guest and Mr. Nishanta Ranatunga was the Judge . The match attracted a very good turnout of editors, journalists and members of the electronic media. The teams were put together by the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association and the Editors Guild of Sri Lanka.

This match was organized in the tradition of friendship and regular interaction that characterizes the relationship between the High Commission of India and the media in Sri Lanka..
