The India - Sri Lanka Foundation was established by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka and the government of the Republic of India signed on 28 December, 1998 at New Delhi.

The Foundation is financed through revenues from a trust set up with grants made available by the two governments.

  ABOUT US

The India - Sri Lanka Foundation has been set up with the following Objectives:

  • To foster India - Sri Lanka relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.

  • To promote greater understanding between the people of the two countries.

The thrust areas identified for promoting understanding and cooperation are:

  • Education and Culture

  PROGRAMMES

  • Financing higher studies ,research and other education activities at institutes of learning located in India

  • Facilitating visits and exchangers between India and Sri Lanka of scholars, academic, professionals, artists, experts involved in areas of activities covered by the foundation.

  • Assisting activities such as seminars, symposia, colloquia, and workshops on subjects of common interest.

  • Extending financial support to those non-governmental organizations both in India and Sri Lanka whose work facilities achievement of the objectives of the Foundation.

  • Contributing towards publication of standard works on India-Sri Lanka relations in specific fields.

  • Encouraging the transactions of the standard works of Sri Lankan literature into Indian languages and vice-versa and arranging for their publications.

  BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The management and direction of the Foundation are vested in a Board of Directors consisting of six directors. The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India are Co-Chairpersons of the Board. Other members of the Board are nominated by the two governments. The current composition of the Board of Directors is as follows:

The Board is assisted by a working Secretariat in Colombo and New Delhi, comprising an official of the respective High Commission, who serves as the Secretary, and a local programme coordinator.


  PROJECTS FUNDED

Some of the project proposals funded by the India-Sri Lanka Foundation in last few years are:

  • Financial assistance for the staging of ´Samhara´’–A collaborative production between the Chitrasena Dance Company and the Nirtyagram Dance Ensemble in Sri Lanka.

  • Financial assistance for conducting workshops and lectures in association with the Ramanathan Academy of Fine Arts, Jaffna to organize performances coinciding with the Nallur Festival.

  • Financial assistance for twenty seven members of various theatre groups from India to participate in the Colombo International Theatre Festival.

  • Financial assistance to conduct workshops for museum staff on the techniques of conservation of paints and prints in association with the National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NLRC), Lucknow.

  • Financial assistance for the production of a dance drama titled "Mekala".

  • Financial support to Theatre Institute for Disability Oriented Research and Advocacy (THIDORA), to organize a series of workshops in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka involving differently–abled children on creative arts in partnership with Tamana, New Delhi.

  • Financial support to Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation for telecast of Indian documentaries dubbed in Sinhala and Tamil languages by Channel Eye, Netra TV and Rupavahini for a period of one year.

  • Financial support to stage a dance drama ´Blood relation born by Thambapanni´ at Ladakh, India.

  • Financial support to attend a Conference of Society for Library Professionals held at Institute of Economic Growth, University of Delhi Enclave, to present a paper on "Leadership initiative in Digital Libraries".

  • Financial support to Pathfinder Foundation to conduct a study on opportunities for Sri Lankan firms to access Indian supply chains.

  • Financial support for the visit of literary personalities nominated by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, to Sri Lanka for public lectures and interactive sessions at Universities and Cultural Institutions.

  • Financial support to organize workshops by theatre experts from the National School of Drama, New Delhi.

  • Financial support for an educational visit to India for seven students and one accompanying teacher from Zahira College, Colombo.

  • Financial support to visit India for twelve students from Central, Sabaragamuva and Wayamba Provinces in Sri Lanka (4 students from each province and 1 accompanying teacher).

  HOW TO APPLY

Individuals, institutions and groups are invited to approach the Foundation with proposals which meet the stated Objectives of the Foundation.

The form could be downloaded by clicking here and used by those interested to make proposals to the India-Sri Lanka Foundation for financial assistance. The duly filled form could be forwarded to the Colombo Secretariat or the New Delhi Secretariat of the India-Sri Lanka Foundation.

The proposals are considered in the meeting of the Board of Directors held bi-annually and if approved, award letters are issued by the respective Secretariats.

INVITATION OF PROPOSALS

The India - Sri Lanka Foundation (ISLF) was established by a Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of India and Sri Lanka in 1998 in order to foster India - Sri Lanka relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation and to promote greater understanding between the people of the two countries.

 

Some of the recent projects which were funded by the ISLF includes part support for preparation and publication of a Crafts Map of Sri Lanka by Western Provincial Handicrafts Development Foundation in association with Dastkari Haat Samithi of New Delhi; part support for preparation and publication of a Braille edition of a Sinhala practical course in Hindustani classical music; part support for participation of 3 faculty members from University of Peradeniya, University of Rajarata and University of  Ruhuna in PHYSWARE 2012, New Delhi; part support to participation of 6 youth in the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2013, Kochi; part support to “Char Adhyaya, a dance and musical tribute to Rabindranath Tagore by Santiniketan Friends; support to participation of Flute Maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia in the Colombo Music Festival; and part support to participation of famous Photographer and Documentary Director Benoy Behl in the SAARC International Conference on Archaeology of Buddhism.

 

India- Sri Lanka Foundation invites project proposals for funding support, in the areas of education, art & culture, archaeological studies, agricultural research, science & technology, information technology, health, development studies and gender studies, which would be considered at the next meeting of the Board of Directors to be held in March 2013..

 

Under the above thrust areas, proposals could be submitted for research projects and other educational activities at recognised institutions of learning located in India and in Sri Lanka, visits and exchanges involving students, scholars, academics, artists, professionals and performing artistes, to participate in conference/seminar, symposia, art exhibition, film festival, cultural events and training workshops etc, publication of research works on India-Sri Lanka relations in the specified fields and translating literary works in Indian languages to Sri Lankan languages and publishing them, and vice-versa.

 

Individuals, Institutions and Groups are invited to submit proposals which would be considered during the next meeting of the Board of Directors in March, 2013.

 

A duly filled application form which could be downloaded from the High Commission of India website (www.hcicolombo.org) along with the proposal may be forwarded to our address given below to reach us by February 28, 2013.
