1. The High Commission of India has engaged the services of VFS Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. to handle visa outsourcing functions on its behalf. This endeavour on the part of the Indian High Commission at Colombo is to facilitate the visa applicants in obtaining high quality services. This facility has commenced effective from 11th February 2008.

2. In September, 2007 the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi introduced a centralized 'Machine Readable Passport' (MRP) issuing system which enabled the High Commission to issue high quality passports with a number of security features. Now, the Indian nationals can apply for various passports services by logging on to the Ministry's web site www.passport.gov.in/nri/. They could fill in their application on line and submit the same with relevant documents to the Indian Mission. The High Commission continues to render all passport services over the counter in case of any emerger.tcy.

3. Consular services available at the High Commission include, authentication of
official documents, drawing up of 'Powers of Attorney' 'Affidavits' and Attestation of the same; registration of child birth and issue of birth certificate, police clearance certificate, etc. 'Non Resident Indians'(NRI) in Sri Lanka can register themselves with the Mission on line through Mission's web site www.hcicolombo.org
