Sri Lankan armed forces delegation returns after seeking blessings at Bodh Gaya

160 members of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and their families arrived back at Colombo on 26 June 2018 after seeking blessings at Bodh Gaya. Their journey was facilitated by a special Indian Air Force flight.

At Bodh Gaya, the delegation was greeted with a cultural show by Indian Army. The Sri Lankan Armed Forces personnel and their family members visited Mahabodhi temple, where a special ceremony was arranged. They also visited popular places, including the 80 feet statue of Buddha and Sujatagarh shrine. Sri Lankan officials interacted with their counterparts at Officer’s Training Academy, Gaya.

The three day visit to sacred Bodh Gaya shrine was undertaken pursuant to discussions held between General Bipin Rawat, the Indian Army Chief and Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayke, Commander of Sri Lanka Army, during the former’s recent visit to Sri Lanka. In keeping with the centuries old shared Buddhist heritage between India and Sri Lanka, Government of India supported the noble proposal within a very short time frame. The visit has added a “Spiritual Dimension” to existing defence cooperation ties between Armed Forces of two countries.
